6 Tips for Balancing Work and Social Life, Avoiding the burnout.

Like I touched in the video, work and life balance can be extremely challenging. In the video I referenced a few ideas for balancing your social life and work. Also for balancing a hobby or skill-set that practice on the side and that you hope to one day, monetize.

There’s a ton of information I could provide here for you, but I’ve narrowed it down into 6 Tips.

1) Let go of the little things.
What I mean by this, is to let go of as many decisions as possible when it comes to starting your day. Nothing in this life is perfect and it shouldn’t have to ruin your day. For example, I usually wear the same clothes day in and day out, but not because i’m lazy and I have nothing to wear, but simply because I don’t want the decisions of wearing something or not wearing something to determine my mood for the day. I have three to four of the same shirts and a few good pairs of jeans. One less thing to worry about and one step toward greatness.

2) Get away from the workspace.
Since I became my own boss, I thought it would be snap. I get to work from home and I make the occasional visits to Reno Collective downtown, but even being there a few days out of the week puts me back in “office” mood. When this happens, I simply get away and grab a Starbucks, or just take a walk around the block. Sometimes I even sit on the corner, on Arlington, and people watch. Whatever it is you do, take a break and great away.

3) Daily Workout
Trust me, i’m no spring chicken! I can’t even remember the last time I was in the gym, I think it was 2 months ago. A workout can be as simple as a walk for a few blocks or even parking on the top floor of the parking garage and using the stairs. If you were to Google, “Steps For Balancing Work and Life”, you would almost every time get, “Exercise”! If you do or don’t, it’s up to you, I don’t do it everyday, but it does feel good to stay active.

4) Don’t spend a lot of time on social media.
I myself use to have this problem. I was on Facebook for hours, trolling updates and watching videos. If someone was paying me, I’d be a millionaire by now. In a past blog post I made a video and tried out some software that can help. Check it out here. https://stevelemus.com/self-control-blocking-websites-in-order-to-get-work-done/

5) Change your Habits
Have you had that friend who would always give you the same advice when you didn’t like the way your life was? “If you don’t like something, change it”. Simple as that, moving on!

6) Don’t bit off more than you can chew.
If you have a hell of a work load, don’t look at the overall project. Looking at the entire thing will make you go crazy, trust me, I use to do that all the time. Instead, start somewhere, and then take it bit by bit, before you know it, you’ll be all done and with time to spare.

That’s it for this round, can’t wait to share a new video with all of you next week!
